Harry Potter , will he stand the test of time?
October 1st, 2008
J.K.Rowlings has decided that she will not write any more books in the Harry Potter saga how do you feel about this?
Are you a lover or hater of Potter?
Do you think in a 100 years from now children will be still reading Harry Potter or do you think the Potter books are firmly locked in the here and now? …..lets have a debate !

Hi Mrs C.
I think once you have read one harry potter you have read them all. The theme of good versus evil is always neat and thats a seller but jk rowlings is no shakespeare. Her themes are kinda shakespearian but without his gusto after all he is the BOSS. I think potter books are what kids today are interested in the way your generation liked star wars and it will pass.

Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets is a great book J.K Rowling. It createas atmesfier and suspence. It is realy instresting and makes you want to read on and get into the feel story
@ connect 4 I agree with you the Potter books are very exciting.
@ Kourtney and Shannon I think you make some interesting comments girls
Hello Mrs Cunningham,
Unfortunately I am not interested in Harry Potter, only in the movies! I don’t know why… they just don’t have a spark when it comes to me!
I am actually a hater of Harry potter (Sorry J.K Rowling!!) just because! But to others, they may be interested in it.
To me, I do see students and people still reading Harry Potter because there are many books that have lasted for centuries and even them aren’t that great. So since it is the best book ever, it shall be passed on from Harry Potter Lovers’ generation to generation.
Thousands of people love the books, so I don’t see why in 100 years their children or grand children shouldn’t be reading them either!
I love this debate!!
Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself! I am Nadine from the 08Allstars in Sydney, Australia. Here is my class blog: http://www.allstars.edublogs.org

Hey Luke here I love harry potter especially the goblet of fire it was really danjerus.
i think it will be here forever
Not convinced that we will be reading Harry Potter in 100 years time. When you think about some of the really popular children books from previous decades they aren’t probably as popular now. But maybe I’m wrong?
Hi Mrs Cunningham!
I am Natalie and I come from the same class as Nadine, the 08 Allstars.
I am a huge fan of Harry Potter books. I have read all of them more than 5 times already. Yes, I am sad that J.K Rowling will not ne writing anymore Harry Potter books
I am not sure if kids and adults will be reading Harry Potter books in the future. Maybe some people will and some people won’t.
Hope to keep in contact!
Natalie
@ Sue, you could be right, but what JK Rowlings has captured is timeless… that is the theme of good and evil. Already the books have found their way into school syllabus’. Clearly they could become part of the literature cannon for children given the content. But then again I could be wrong?
Hi Natalie,
and welcome to our blog. I am going to let some of the children respond to you, but you do make some good points.
I think that harry potter will still be read in a hundred years by young children becouse it is such a favourite story now.
It is good
In my opinion I think the Harry Potter books are well written but I think they take along time to read.
P.S. I love all the colours on your website nice job Bye
Hello Readers!
I think the Harry Potter Series will be around for a long time! I hate to admit it, but I’m not a huge fan of the books, but as a fifth grade teacher, I’ve read them all. I still find kids in my class reading books that were popular in years past. Have you read any of these books? Boxcar Children Series, Silver Skates, or Dr. Seuss books
You should check out some of the book reviews by my students at http://mrlund.edublogs.org/2008/10/27/book-talks/
Keep up the great work!
Mr. Lund

I think that kids in the furture will love these books because she is such a good writer and I love her books.
And I hope kids in the furture will to. Also vist http;//mrlund.edublogs.org my class room wibsite.
Hello. I watched the first four movies but I could not wait for the fifth one so I read it. Then I read the half blood prince and the deathly hallows. They were such a good books i could not put them down. I hope that these books last along time.
@ Mr Lund,
thanks for your comment…I think you may have something there…what books are popular in America?
@ Mason welcome, what do you think is the secret to the Harry Potter books, why do people like them?
@ Brooke, great names by the way =) if you could have one more Harry Potter what would the theme be?
@ Adit, we would like to send your class a book, what type of book do you think would interest most of you?
Thanks to Mr Lund and his class for their comments, today is Reading club day so I am sure many of my readers will get back to you!
HI. I am Brennen From USA. Mr. Lund is my science teacher. I loved the Harry Potter books so much I finished them in 4 months(because my bus ride is like 30 from home and to school). I think Harry Potter will last because the people who like it like me will pass it on.
I think the secret is that the story is always rising to the climax in every chapter. Which makes it hard to stop reading it.You always have to finish the chapter before you stop.I think you guys would like the book The World According o Humprey.
I think whether something stands the test of time depends on how much it is valued in its time. We are more likely to read Harry Potter to the next generation if we think its a good read for us
did anyone ask JK Rowlings what she thinks?
J.k Rowling has with no doubt planned the whole story very well, but in the end, the 7 stories in it self are too stereotypical. She sometimes writes ’sparks’ that surprises you more than anything, but they too seem too much for the reader’s sake. Harry Potter has only reached the world’s bestseller of it’s plot. I do not see any descriptions in the books that are fit to have the honor. Children will like it, with all the killing and magic and monsters, but in the end, they don’t mean anything. I understand that J.K Rowling was very poor when she wrote this and was desperate for money, but even so, I think a good book comes with good “WRITING” not ‘giving candies to children’.
I’m in a school in Bangkok Thailand called ISB (INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL BAGKOK) over here popular books are the WARRIORS SERIES, ALEX RIDER SERIES, and more. please visit our blog. And if you guys are looking for some good books go to our blogroll and look for Mrs.Kilowskies awesome blog. http://room202.edublogs.org/
Hello!
This is Priscila , from Argentina.
I loved book and movie of Harry Potter.
I think they are great but I don´t think people will continue reading them because everyday something new appears.
For example these days everybody is talking about “Twilight”.I loved it too , the books are awsome!!And a boy from Harry potter will be in the movie.
I think it is good because you can read a lot, always new and sometimes , interesting books.
Anyway , I will miss Hary Potter´s books!!!
My blog is

Hope to hear from you soon
Priscila
@ Priscilla I agree things do move on quickly but surely good literature should stand the test of time what we need to decide is….is Harry Potter a good piece of literature?
Well thank you for the comment, I appreciate it. I enjoy getting comments! It makes me feel happy to know that people are actually coming to visit my blog.(: Tell me when your students will be blogging again if it’s convenient for you. Thanks. Talk to you soon.
Olivia
Harry Potter is a good book but I don’t really enjoy it that much, but I wish it’s still popular in the next hundred years because many people likes that book.
I never read harry potter but i don’t think I will because there are so many good books out in the world waiting for me to read them. But I do think children in 100 years will still be reading harry potter.
To Mrs Cunningham and class,
Thanks very much and I am glad that you like my blog, also the blog theme is called Vistered Little Theme. I really liked your point about the Harry Potter books. I think that they will be like what we think of now as an old book that’s not from our time, but I have to say I will certainly be encouraging my children and grand children to read the Harry Potter series. I really don’t like the fact that she isn’t writing any more books, she could have wrote a lot about James, Albus and Lily, but I have to admit that she did end it well
Hope you keep reading more of my posts,
Lauren
