    hey hey hey its 2009,
I think that you should send very english books that they are not going to read, its too easy to send harry potter or something you know they will have read. I think any Horrid Henry or Michael Morpurgo book will be just great fior them. I dont think they like the books that we do though cos look at cat in the hat that kind of ryhming book is just annoyin and some of their stuff is really cheesy like everything ends up just perfect when we all know it doesnt at all.
Send enid blyton her books afre really annoyin too my sis luvs them
I think its cool they sent you books though
    later

What about some Jeremy Strong book? Or you could send the twits by roald dahl.
I think we do like the same books because the world is shrunk so small we all tend to read the same stuff anyway thats what i think.

It’s important to know what the recipient’s preference in books before you give them one.

  4.   mrscunningham on January 21, 2009 9:42 am

@Ann yes I agree it is important to know your audience but we also want to send something that typifies British literature. So far we seem to have Horrid Henry and Michael Morpurgo books as front runners any other ideas readers?

  5.   Jas on January 24, 2009 10:24 pm

If you want a good Michael Morpurgo book send the book “Freind or Foe” to Mr Lund’s class. It is about British kids beibng evacuated during world war 2 its so interesting they will love it!

    Hello friends!

My students are very eager to see and read the books that are coming our way! Our libraian has ordered Jane Blonde book you had mentioned. There is already a waiting list to read it once it arrives.

If timezones allow for it, my class would love to have a quick Skype conversation with you. They are eager to put a voice to our friends in England.

    Hello Mr Lund’s class
I think my readers would love to talk to yours, I think we are 5 hours ahead..so the end of our day and the start of yours. We hope you enjoy Jane Blonde.

  10.   Nicholas on January 27, 2009 4:57 pm

    Hi Mrs.Cunningham,
I would have to say that I would recommend the Harry Potter series. Particularly the Order of the Phoenix. The book I am reading right now is called “Eldest” it is the third book of the inheritance series. The inheritance series is about a man and his dragon with all kinds of adventure.
    Hope my comment was useful.
    Bye

My friend is a teacher librarian who also has a book club. If you would like some friends in Singapore to exchange books with, let me know and I’ll pass on her details. We teach at an International school here.

    Hello Mrs. Cunningham and friends!

My class was encouraged by your recent posts, pictures, and video that we’ve started our own commenting challenge in our classroom. It should be interesting to see if my students find your blog more often in the next week!

If you get a chance, visit our blog and watch a quickly made video of the students working in groups on our current novel, Kavik!

    Bye!

  18.   mrscunningham on February 10, 2009 8:43 am

Ok Mr Lund and Fifth Grade lets really make this interesting….all the students who find their way here will be sent something reading related or at least English. However, they have to visit within the next 3 weeks and the visit has to be unprompted !!!!!! Bring it on!

  19.   kayla202 on February 13, 2009 2:09 am

I recomend Igrain the brave, because it is very descriptive and easy to understand and follow.I also recomend All american girl, because it describes the main characters feelings very very well.

  20.   Nicholas on February 23, 2009 10:22 pm

    Hi Mrs.Cunningham,
You haven’t written a new post in a long time. I am wondering, are you still blogging? Or are you taking a break from blogging?
    Please write back!

  21.   mrscunningham on February 23, 2009 11:05 pm

    Hi Nicholas,
yes, I have not written a new post because Reading club and friends are caught up in what good books we might send to friends in Illinois. What do you think our next topic should be World Book Day?

  22.   Nicholas on February 24, 2009 8:16 pm

    Hi Mrs.Cunningham,
I think a good post you could do is a survey post.
I have done surveys on my blog quite a few times before and my readers have loved them.
Since you and your class are so big on books I think you should do a survey about peoples favorite books or favorite characters in the book. After a while you can write a following post with the results.
Ofcourse I want you to write a post about football but I hoped this helped!
    Bye!

    Hello Reading Club!

I was excited to see a large white envelope labeled with “Royal Mail” filling my mailbox! Another teacher and I read through all the great items in the envelope and loved each item! I’ll be sharing everything with my class Friday afternoon. Check back to see some comments left by my students!

  32.   mrscunningham on March 4, 2009 9:14 am

@ Angie, Jocelyn, Brooke, Paige, Brock and Olivia
thanks fifth graders what nice things to say we can’t wait till you get our books. We also wondered if any of you would like to do a short review of the books we sent to place on our blog? Write and let us know we are very excited!

  33.   Mr. Lund on March 9, 2009 9:14 pm

THE BOOKS ARRIVED! The package came during our reading class to the delight of everyone! Of course, we had to open it quickly! The students loved all the items and books! We’ve decided to read “Friend or Foe” as a read a loud during reading. We’re excited to read a book about WWII from a perspective different than ours! The other two books will be read in small groups during class – we had too many people eager to read them and decided that this would be the fairest method! We’ll post updates about the books starting soon!

    Thank you!

    -Mr. Lund

    Hello Reading Club!

I’m Connor and I’m Brock from Mr. Lund’s Class.

In class, our reading teacher, Mrs. Larson started reading, Friend or Foe, to us. The book is already very interesting because it has a neighbor the suffered the bombing of a German plane. I was surprised to learn that the kids left their parents to live in the safety of the countryside.

In small groups we each started to read one of the other books. In my group (Connor), we started to read Amelia Jane is Naughty Again. Amelia Jane is very couragous to mess with the other animals when there is more of them than her! The book is very funny! I want to learn why she is so mean to the other animals – what did they do to her?

In my group (Brock), we read Horrid Henry. I thought it was really funny because some of the names of the book were just crazy like Happy Nappy or The Adventures of Terry the Tea Towel!

    Thanks again!

    Connor and Brock

ps….I still think Friend or Foe will be the best! (Connor)

  35.   Mr. Lund on March 10, 2009 9:01 pm

    Paige & Angie

I liked the beginning of Friend or Foe. It seems like a really good book. The start caught my attention because I made a connection to the book Naria. It seems like the same thing is kinda happening. (Angie)

Amelia Jane is a doll that seems to get into a heap of trouble! She always likes to play with her friends, but when she gets around her friends she gets mean and ugly with them! When she is bad, she reminds me of my sister! :) (Paige)

  36.   Mr. Lund on March 10, 2009 9:07 pm

I’m Kaleb and have really enjoyed Amelia Jane. I liked it because she makes a necklace out of acorns. That seemed like a neat idea. Amelia is also small enough to cool off in a pond! I can’t wait to read it more tomorrow because I think it will continue to be funny!

  37.   Mason on March 11, 2009 2:36 am

It’s Mason and Mr.Lund’s class just got the books. My small group is starting to read “Horrid Henry’s Stinkbomb. So far it’s humorous. Our grouup thinks some for the names of the books are funny.

  38.   Jocelyn on March 13, 2009 1:09 am

Our class is reding Friend or Foe together as a class. Every time we finish a chapter we don’t want to stop reading it. Also our small group is reading Horrid Harry’s Stinkbomb. I think that it is really funny so far. Thank you all for sending us books.

    -Jcelyn from Mr.Lund’s class

How about a timeless classic. Not new but a goody. “The Cay” by Theodore Taylor. My kids in NZ loved it when I read it to them. Probably they would have been gulity of falling into the same trap as many people and judged this book by the cover (which is less than stimulating)
